FEI World Equestrian Games Aachen 2006 Dressage Team
Seventeen countries entered the team competition with Germany the hot favourites for gold. After the first day Germany already had a commanding lead and they were assured of the top prize after Holland's Anky van Grunsven was unable to post a very high score to put the pressure on the hosts, after Salinero was far from settled in the Grand Prix test. Isabell Werth's second choice ride Satchmo would then match Anky's score of 75%. Holland once again had to settle for Silver after Edward Gal, last team member to go riding Group 4 Securior Lingh, failed to show enough power and expression. USA ensured they would go home with a medal after their ever dependable Brentina and Debbie McDonald secured USA's second score over 70% to join team mate Steffen Peters who was the best of the Americans on Floriano with a score of 72.7%. The best individual score in the Team competition cane from Denmark's Andreas Helgstrand ridig the brilliant 9 year old mare Blu Hors Matine and this combination would capture the hearts of all who saw them perform during the Games. Runs approx 100mins.

FEI World Equestrian Games Aachen 2006 Dressage Individual - Grand Prix Special and Kur
Grand Prix Special After the team competition there was a definite feeling in Aachen that Holland's Anly van Grunsven and Salinero were beatable in the special, She set the target with 77.8% but she had been marked down for failing to halt at the start and finish of her test and the home crowd knew that the consummate proffessional Isabell Werth had a real chance of Victory. In an imperious performance that was faultless the crowd watched the scores mount up in Isabell's favour on the electronic scoreboard and erupted at the final halt - they knew she had done it for Germany!
Kur Fifteen riders contested the eagerly anticipated finale to the dresage competition - the Kur, in a packed Aachen stadium with an estimated 60,000 crowd and if medals were won on applause then Andreas Helgstrad and Blu Hors Matine would have won by a wide margin. A daring freestyle was brilliantly executed and Andreas punched the air at the end in celebration. However, the queen of the Kur Anky van Grunsven, was once again in a class of her own as Salinero answered every call. Hard though Isabell Werth tried, Satchmo wasn't quite at his best but she still managed a much deserved bronze medal.
This was equestrain sport of the highest class. All the leading tests are shown in full on both discs. Runs approx 100mins each.
